I am relatively new to the Mac world (Christmas) and am pretty impressed with it so far. I am a mature student and my coursework requires me to use MS Office. I have installed Word, PowerPoint and Excel for Mac 2011. Every time I open one of these up (for eg. Word) a "Welcome to Word for Mac 2001 - What's new" window opens up and I simply can't get rid of it (or open the file I originally wanted to view).

I have had to save a blank Word and Excel document which normally enables me to get around this screen. But not so with PowerPoint.

Can anyone advise me please? It is so frustrating!

Is there a registration key number to submit? I can't remember. It's been so long since I installed Office on my Mac.

I've never seen a "What's new" window?? Can you post a screen shot? Is this a copy you purchased and have registered - or is this a trial copy?

I'm going to assume that they are referring to this window.

This is not normal behaviour and instead of trying to fiddle with files to correct this, it might be quicker to uninstall Office completely and reinstall it. Full uninstallation instructions here.

Did you by chance purchase Office via download from Microsoft? If so it sounds like you may not have actually installed the software and be working from the download. Go into Applications and see if Microsoft Office 2011 appears.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
