I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and just installed some software updates. Now iPhoto won't open and I get this error message: Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application.

If I delete iPhoto and reinstall it will I lose all my pictures and video? I have almost 1500 of my 5 month old daughter, very worried right now. I installed the latest update for iPhoto off the apple website but that didn't help. Here's the details of the error message I get, any help is GREATLY appreciated!

As long as you don't touch your iPhoto Library file your pictures will be safe. Having said that you should always have a backup.

After deleting and reinstalling iPhoto just double click on the old library file and iPhoto will launch using it.

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

Thanks Razor and you are correct, I need to back up everything asap. I have tried several things over the past 3 days and nothing is working. I deleted all the pkg iphoto files and reinstalled iPhoto, same error message. I did the software update then installed the newest 9.2.2 iphoto update, same error message. I tried what you mentioned, opening photos from the library file and same message. Here are the details of my error message, any help is greatly appreciated, thanks again.

Ooo!

I'm not the iPhoto expert around here (do most of my work in Aperture). Hoping you don't have a corrupted Library file.

I am going to suggest three things to try that may not help at all, but won't hurt and sometimes will fix strange problems (won't help if the Library is corrupt unfortunately).

1) open Disk Utility (In Utilities Folder within Applications) and Repair Disk Permissions
2) do a PRAM Reset
3) same thing for SMC (doubt if this will help, but won't hurt)

I will chase down detailed instructions on how to do the last two, if you don't know how.

PRAM Reset
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

SMC Reset
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.
