I am taking an online class that states all users must have anti-virus protection.
Do you think this applies to macs?

How would we know that?

Since your class makes the rules they decide how they apply.

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

If they insist on AV protection, download and use ClamXAV which is freeware. Do not be talked into outlaying money for any commercial software. Most IT technicians find it hard to believe there are no Mac viruses.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Lots of members ask questions about anti-virus products and security concerns with the Mac. Since there are a growing number of security threats that impact the Mac, it helps to get acquainted with what those are, how to avoid them and what proactive steps you can take to keep your Mac from being impacted.

I'd recommend reading this thread:

Official antivirus, malware, and firewall FAQ

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Pardon my asking, but if it is an online class, how would they know if you have an anti-virus program on your own computer or not?
