iMac to Cinema Display

I have a late 2009 21.5" iMac and I was wondering if I purchased a cinema display if it would work as a dual display setup? Does it matter which year it is? I found an 24" Aluminium cinema display (I think one of the first alumiun styles to come out) for $350. Is this a good deal?

that should work just make sure to get the right adapter. You could probably find one cheaper then 350 though.

I'll post a picture of what the monitor looks like. I am not sure what year it is. It looks like the newer one but I am sure it is a few years old. Do you think I could still find it cheaper? Thanks for your help.

That should be the right cord for both the iMac and the display.
