Hey everyone
I recently got Ableton Live on my Macbook Pro. Absolutely loved it. However, recently a friend tried to install Pro Tools, Sibelius, and the VocAlign plugin on it for me. Pro Tools installed but he neglected to tell me that I needed an M-box to run it -_- Sibelius failed to install and I don't actually know if VocAlign worked or not because I can't actually check. I got rid of Pro Tools and the Sibelius files then went to work on Ableton and it wouldn't open. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but still nothing. I did this several times. Later on I discovered a lot of my music software wasn't running anymore. The programmes are still there but they just won't open. They either bring up a loading screen and just don't go from there or the icon in the dock constantly bounces and nothing else happens. This is seriously bad because I'm a music technology student and I seriously need these programmes. Here's a list of programmes that won't work. Garageband Ableton Mixxx Virtual DJ Sonic Visualiser VSTi Host Demo Tux Guitar Cubase LE4 Other programmes like iTunes/Microsoft/Mindnode/Facetab etc. still work. Please, if anyone can help me with this, let me know. I'm actually freaking out that I might have to completely wipe my computer which is the last thing I want to do. Cheers |

Yeah, this kind of thing can happen when one installs ... um, certain kinds of software.
Sounds like something has totally hosed the MIDI/Core Audio engine, since only apps that rely on that appear to be affected. I can't think of much else to do about that other than a system reinstall, apps reinstall and some prayer or ritual sacrifice (depending on your religious views). Luckily, you have backups and original install disks for all that expensive software, so I wouldn't think this would be that much of a deal. Use Time Machine to go back before your friend "helped" you and restore from there (or your last clone if you're not using Time Machine) |
