download and save word doc

ok this is a weird one. I have mac book pro. when i get an email in my comcast account that is a word doc. if i just click on it it wont open at all. I click on it to save doownload as. Then when i go to get the doc it has been saved as a doc.html..... what did i do

I did try dragging it to my pages icon in the doc and nothing happens.

Help!!!
