I'm not new to Macs, but new to knowing how to make certain marks when typing geographical locations.

Can someone tell me where to find these marks on my keyboard or do I need to cut and paste?

If you're using Lion, you can just hold down the key which will popup a little "tooltip". In that tooltip are all the accents and the button to push to get that accent. Here's an example of what happens when I hold down the "e" key:
