Can some one please tell me if their is a patch somewhere to solve this problem. I have the white mouse that was issued with the computer.
Problem started about a month ago.
My Mac sees a double-click when I single-click.

Welcome to the Mac Forums.

I'm not sure which mouse you have, but assuming it's an older "Mighty Mouse" it's probably dirty inside. That particular mouse gets dirty very easily and is difficult to clean. What I suggest is not to use the Mighty Mouse but instead buy an inexpensive USB mouse such as the Logitech wired optical mouse or equivalent. It'll work fine with your iMac.

And check Mouse settings in System Preferences regarding right click, primary and secondary etc.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
