I would suggest reformatting the drive using disk utility. Pull up disk utility, select the drive that you want to wipe, then the menu bar has an option to erase. Once there you will see an option near the bottom that says security options. Open that and turn the meter all the way up to most secure. At the max level it uses a 7 pass system that should be safe enough to wipe all the data.
