I am on osx. (one system only)
I did put in the trash my old system files that I had keep in backup (on an external drive) when I have swith to mac osx... you know... just in case...

Now that I don't need them anymore, I have put these files in the trash. They are still there because every time I empty the trash, everything delete but these files... probably because they are seen as system files...

HOW CAN I DELETE THEM ??

PS : And by the way, on osx, is there a way to acurate the speed of the drive. On os9 we were doing scan disk and optimising disk... Sometihing like this on osx ??

What is the message you get when you try to delete them? If the files are locked you will need to unlock them.

Try selecting Secure Empty trash, that sometimes works for me.

If not, create a root account (boot from the CD, create a new account from the Finder Menu when it gets to the first installation screen, it is the same area where you change the account password and I believe it is listed as such in the finder Menu). The User Name MUST be root, the password can be whatever you want. When you are done, log into the new root account and empty the trash. Logout, log back into your profile and live happily ever after.

Be VERY careful in the root account as your can screw up you Mac BADLY from there.
