hello board,
primitive question when i unmount a disk from disk utility, does it physically spin down the drive or just make it unavailable? i ask because i have enough heat blasting out of my macpro with two drive bays loaded and the third and fourth ones are not necessarily needed all the time cheerz sunb |

Dis-mounting a drive will spin it down unless in the case of older drives, the firmware prevents it. I have four external drives of which only one (5 years old) will not spin down.
