Windows less likely than Mac for malware

Deb Shindler (sp?) who writes extended blogs for Windows XP and Windows 7 claims that newer Windows OS's are less likely to have malware problems than will Mac users. Deb goes on to say that anyone who ventures on to the Internet "unprotected" is foolish. Comments? Should Mac users begin installing av and malware protection? If so, what programs are recommended?

Never had to remove any malware from a Mac but plenty from a PC.

Never read such a load of rubbish since Bill Gates released Vista, (The ultimate Windows operating system) according to him. What a load of rubbish that turned out to be.
