I've been downloading files every day for the past two years. In the last couple of days, every time I download something a .DS_Store file also appears. I cannot delete this. Can anyone tell me why this has started happening and how I can delete these files?

Have you recently installed a utility to show hidden files? Or have you turned on show hidden files from the Terminal?

Sorry! Remiss of me. I found the solution here (although I still don't know how it happened in the first place):
