Hi all,

I just bought a macbook pro 13 i7 laoptop. I am a little disappointed to be honest. I used to have a standard white mabook and it feels identical in terms of speed!

I did an xbench test but have no real idea what I am looking at.....

Xbench: Comparison

can someone have a look and tell me if anything seems abnormally low?

I used to have a 7200 rpm hdd in my old macbook vs standard one in my new laptop. Surely the massive step up in power will mean it should be much quicker regardless of the slower hdd?

much appreciated

Nothing looks out of the ordinary, XBench is just not really a valid tool these days (and I would argue, it never was since it can't seem to produce a consistent result).

It hasn't been updated in a number of years, it doesn't run in 64-bit mode (so it doesn't take full advantage of your CPU) and it weighs disk performance way too heavily in the overall result.

It's just not a good, objective measure. If you want something better, have a look at Geekbench.

Your i7 MacBook Pro is several orders of magnitude more powerful than the CD/C2D in your old MacBook. Of course, that won't always be apparent if you're not running an application that can take advantage of 4 cores or is particularly disk I/O intensive (where the slower HDD will render some of that advantage moot).

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Geekbench score was 6879, is that good?

It depends on what you actually use your computer for. Are you just trying to ace benchmarks, or do you have a specific goal in mind?

What cwa107 said. I mean, if your main app is AppleWorks, you can put that on any Mac made in the last decade or so and it will run exactly as fast on the oldest one as it does on the newest one.

OTOH, try running Google Earth on my 2007 Blackbook and then on your machine, and you WILL notice a HUGE difference in performance.
