I am using the new Outlook 2011 for Mac and would like to switch back to Mac Mail. MS doesn't make this easy. Anyone have a method that works?

Thanks!

The best and easiest method is to use O2M (Outlook to Mail). It's not free but is well worth the $12.95 cost to register. Download LINK. You could also use the free Thunderbird application, but the method is a bit convoluted and requires more steps to convert. Outlook to Mail works the best.

I think O2M only deals with Outlook for Windows' PST files. If that is, indeed, the case, this link should be helpful:

That is correct. The O2M FAQ states that it will only export from the Windows versions, not the Mac. It's too bad.

^ I think it's probably because Outlook 2011 is just Entourage, rebranded, with the added feature of being able to import content natively from a Windows PST.

Apple Mail is supposed to be able to import directly from Entourage, but I think the change in name has tripped up whatever bot Mail is employing so it doesn't find the files it needs in the "right" place.
