So I have a similar problem to the one just posted here a moment ago. I have changed icons around on my dock and sometimes they don't want to stay changed. Most of them (firefox, photoshop, word ect) have worked perfectly and I've had no problems. However, others like Aptana Studio 3 and Skype just won't stay changed when the applications are running. After I quit the applications they go back to the new icon I made, but if I run them the dock icon changes back to the original.

Many applications behave the same way and there really is nothing you can do about it as it's built into the code. That problem even exists on Windows systems - nothing new.

Ah that's unfortunate. I didn't get into icon customization when I was stuck on PC so I didn't know. Oh well, wish there was a way around it especially for skype since it's almost always running.

How are you changing the icons?
I have Skype's icon modded, the thing you need to do it go into Skypes package contents are replace it's .icns file with the different .icns file

So right click on the Skype application and choose "Show Package Contents" and then go to Contents/Resources/SkypeBlue.icns and replace it.

This is with Skype 2.8.x.x.x so it may not work on newer versions.

Interesting... I just did a select all / copy of the .png file that I wanted and then went into "get info" and pasted the png where the old icon was. This worked for all the others. How to I get/make an icns file?

The best way is to get the icon as a .icns file straight from the icon designer, however iConvert: Convert ico, icns, and png icons online for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux can do it for you if needed.
