Help!~ Time machine had been working beautifully then it was turned off for a month. It is now NOT being recognised by the MacBook Pro ( OSX). In system preferences the icon is visable but when I go to reconfigure the time machine it only shows up my airport express and I cannot open Time machine preferences....I'm a somewhat of a novice who'd appreciate help.

I'm a little confused by your post. Time Machine is software, not hardware. Are you saying the external drive you are using isn't being recognised?

You are right, ( I'm learning all the time!)...the Time Machine backs on to a Seagate Freeagent GOFLEX D'T 52883 and it is not being recognised as my external drive. What are my options?

Did you unplug the drive without ejecting it?

No, that's why it has me beat. The only thing was there could have been interrupted power supplies or surges when I had turned it off for a couple of months so not sure if that could have done it. It is connected to a decent power board though which is meant to buffer any of that.

Try attaching the drive to any other Mac you may have access to and see if it comes up. Then we can determine if the problem is the drive or something else.
