Apple Quality Service - Spilled drink on MacBook Pro
    Hi Guys

Just wanted to share with all of you out there my experience after spilling a drink on my MBP 2010. i7 500GB 7200 8GB

Yes .. kick me in the ... I know .. I spilled a drink on my babe MBP the other day (ab a week ago)
After a dry-dry session I have manage to make it work again. uffffff

Few days later I found out that few LEDs under my keyboard don't work .. keyboard was working fine and so the laptop
I decided to check then other components .. I found that the fire-wire and mini display connectors worked but only when the plug was 2 millimetres out of the edge.

I also opened the laptop I cleaned the most of the interior (there was no liquid just dust)
.. after all and I booked a meeting with the Genius Bar in my local Apple Store to see what options are for me.

I need to say my MBP has been bought as a student laptop so it has an Apple Care out of the box (for free).

I did a chat at Genius Bar and I said I don't know what is happening but I have some issues with the laptop .. and I suggest him it was some liquid but I don't remember any accident related to spilling any liquid on it.

Can you believe that the Genius Bar guy looked inside the laptop .. examined it and decided to repair it all at no cost????

Full logic board and the keyboard have been replaced the very same day.

I know the Apple service is one of if not the best one out there .. but this kind of service is out of any any range.

I did not want to lay so I really suggest a liquid accident .. and still he agreed to repair it.

I will never leave Apple ..

I suggested .. liquid accident but don't remember any .. he is a specialist and he know what he is doing .. moreover he know how and where to check.
I could send my daughter with the laptop and say nothing at all ..still he need to check it.
I wanted to know what are my options .. he said free repair.

You're right, it is "out of any range" - as was your behavior when you decided to defraud the company.

To me, this isn't any different from shoplifting from a store, boasting about your crime, and complimenting the company for their inept security.
Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

So you twisted the story and didn't tell him what you actually knew happened.

Exactly how is that any different than lying?

    Are you proud of yourself???

Why is it so darn hard to own up to responsibility these days. Everyone wants to lie, cheat and steal their way out of things that are clearly their fault. Admit your mistakes, pay for them, learn from them and move on.

    First thing first ..

It is not fair you suggest I did something wrong.
Completely relied on decisions of the service.
I gave them suggestion that the reason of malfunction is the liquid damage.
They had all the information needed to examine it.
I am not a technician and I can not be sure what was the real reason of the malfunction. They know how to check it not me.
I didn't claim free repair!!! .. I asked for my options!!!
    I was ready to pay.

Even if I spotted the malfunction I am not the one who know for sure what happened - I can only guess what was the reason .. and I suggest it.
Moreover .. the amount of liquid spilled was something like two teaspoons of liquid.
Maybe it was just coincidence or maybe not.

Just because I think that I know what is the reason of the malfunction the technician may have different opinion and still have to examine the equipment and he know the rules better than me and you.
He has guidelines what to do/investigate and ask the customer. With accordance to the apple repair, investigating and decision procedures.

The apple care rules relay not on what I say but relay on what the examiner will decide. I could say I shot it into the space .. so what?
This thread was not about me but about how quick they resolved it and how lucky I was.

You still lied claiming that you "didn't recall spilling any liquid on it". So this thread also proves that you're a liar doesn't it?

even a tiny amount of liquid in a computer in the right place can render the thing useless.

morale for today: dont spill anything on your laptop, and if you do pay for the consequences. If i had an i7 2010, I would treat it like a newborn child. Many of us dream of computers that good. Don't get complacent by drinking next to it.

Applecare is there for insurance for defects in the machine, not your negligence to look after it properly.

Justify however you want to make yourself feel better, but the fact remains that you lied to Apple when you took the laptop in. You knew for fact that you spilled your drink on it, but when you go to the Apple store you have a convenient case of amnesia and state "I don't remember any accident related to spilling any liquid on it." Just using your own words....

How silly of us to call out the morally suspect behavior in your story.

    Yay Apple!

    That make you feel better?

Maybe you are right .. I did lie in that or other way .. me bad.
.. however I was ready to pay for the consequence.
Don't get me wrong I did not recall repair for free. I was expecting a high bill.
I wanted them to examine what is the reason and during the conversation I decided to suggest a liquid damage and if he can check if it is the case.

Ok .. the conversation about the morality.

Don't tell me you have never exceeded the speed limit.
If you so (am sure you can not say no) did you go tho the police station to pay the fine?
