I have a DVR I need to remotely connect to over the internet. I can connect but it then wants to load Active X and comes up with an error.
I understand that the Active X plugin is not compatible, but is there a work around other than running parallel os.

Please help

If you don't want to load a full copy of Windows, I'd suggest getting a WINE application (like Darwine) and installed Internet Explorer on it. ActiveX will be a part of that installation.

As an aside - I'd also call the company to complain. You should not have to install anything extra in order to access a web-based interface. It's shoddy design on the part of the DVR manufacturer.
