I am so new to mac. Is there a good tutorial that you suggest for new users. I have done switcher 101.

David Pogue's books are excellent, Mac OS X leopard and Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the Missing Manual, depending on your operating system. Amazon regularly has pre-loved editions for sale, and do so now from $17.00:-

Did you just read the text tutorials or did you also check out the short video ones?

In the business section of the Apple website are some quick tips tutorials that can show you all kinds of useful little tricks in OS X.

These might tide you over till you get the Missing Manual.

You might also enjoy My First Mac (.com) -- a little basic but a good solid resource.

But my main vote goes to finding and joining your local Mac user group. Friendly, lovely people of all skill levels united by a common enjoyment of the Mac and eager to help -- think of it as a avatar-filled, 3D Mac-Forum if it helps.

Wow chas do you still have MUGs in the States and Canada?

Here down under the internet sounded the death knell of most, apart from one or two in capital cities.

I agonized for three month over buying a Mac. I knew I wanted one but really did not know why. I was having a hard time justifying the expense. I have had this Macbook pro for 2 days and I am convinced that this is the best machine made. I am so glad I did it. I am really looking forward to learning from all of you.

Yes, most of the larger cities in the US and Canada have MUGs. The one I'm in now has about 300 members -- but as with most MUGs only about 20% turn up at any given meeting, and only about 20% of THAT number actually do anything to keep things running!

The average age tends to be rather high, but we continue to get members in their 30s and 40s even after all this time. I think the wave of switchers over the last few years "saved" a lot of these clubs from dwindling away ... and luckily for us, Apple keeps changing up the game and making incredible new stuff for us to have to figure out.

I do love the experience I get on the web (check out the number of posts I have here, then triple it to cover the number I have on other forums), but I've made a lot of REALLY good friends through MUGs -- which is much more difficult to do online. It's a little like being a sci-fi fan and never going to a convention, you know? You gotta go to a convention!
