Dock problem on IMAC

I have a few items on my dock that i want to remove so i click and drag and they go right back down? system profilier,quicktime player,colorsync utility. Am i missing something?

Try right clicking the icon, clicking options, then remove from dock

Click like you would normally but on the right-hand-side of the mouse (make sure your other fingers arn't touching it too)
