First off what is this program and what does it do? Is it like defrag in windows? How often does it need to be used? I see it has a auto run feature. Should you just run the auto run?

Sorry nothing but questions on this issue.

Onyx is an overall OS X maintenance utility, it is not a defrag utility.

Onyx is usually run when you suspect maintenance is required over and above the standard built-in maintenance jobs.
I run Onyx once every 2 months max.

The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude towards the problem. You understand ?

In addition to what McBie already said, I will tell you that constant maintenance is not required on OS X as it is on Windows.

Defragmentation is not really necessary unless your disk is nearly full (the general rule of thumb is to keep about 20% clear).

Onyx runs the built-in maintenance scripts for you as well as purges caches and other housekeeping chores that should not be necessary all that often (I actually recommend once or twice per year). Doing it too often can actually reduce performance as the caches are used to speed things up. When they get big and ungainly, you can run into issues, but that shouldn't happen too often.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
