If you're talking about Norton Internet Security..the Antivirus would be a waste, but you do need to be behind a firewall if you are not already behind a NAT router.

Just enable the Firewall in OS X and you should be fine. There are no viruses or spyware for macs so there is no need for any programs to protect you from that

P.S. To enable the firewall go to system preferences->Sharing, select the Firewall tab and make sure it's set to on.
