Hi,

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro thinking it would run all the programs I couldn't use with my old Mac (Ibook G4) including (and specially) Skype.
I downloaded (and installed) Skype 2.8, but it just doesn't work.
I downloaded it twice, thinking I got it wrong the first time, but it's just the same.
It stays on the login page forever, till at last it says "check your network settings" which are fine as long as I know.
Sorry I can't fix this...I'm not very good at "computers" though...
Any help?
Thanks!

I just started skyping with my MBP 2009.5 (kept up-to-date, SL, etc) and am on 2.8xxx…no issues.

Works great for me on various wifis as I travel, works fine on the lil app version too via my iPod Touch 4G.

The only issue I've noticed is that I can get some lag or disconnects if the wifi is weak, but I expect that as I see low signal and poor internet speed at those times.

That's where things get tricky. At least we know that skype 2.8 works fine on Macs…so it is not 100% a skype issue, it's setup or other things.

How about doing a reinstall, has this been tried?

Check that your Mac is working properly otherwise, maybe run a repair program?

Given that the OP is seeing Skype attempting to log-in, but failing, wouldn't that indicate an issue with the network communication settings somewhere? Don't know enough about it myself, but I'm sure someone will have an idea.

Are you running 10.6 Snow Leopard? I am going to do some testing later and want to know what you are using so I can try it here and possibly help.

You shouldn't be running the software firewall anyway. It does nothing that your router isn't already doing better.

Skype 2.8.0.821 works just fine here (SL latest version).

Thanks everyone.

I tried Skype 2.7.0.330 and the same thing... it doesn't open.

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.4, is that the latest one? I hope it is, because my computer is 14 days old!

Do you mean 2.8.0.851? (Can't find 2.8.0.821...)
Where do you download them from? may be I'm not getting the right one..

Hi,

Had a similar issue with 2.8 it would not let me log in, downloaded 2.7 and took 2.8 off. 2.7 worked a treat also gave a message to update so I did and now 2.8 works fine.

Avg209

When you uninstalled skype 2.8 did you also go to Applications > Library > preferences and delete the Skype file/files before loading 2.7?

Here is a link to all Skype versions and was the one I used.

I did not have skype previously. Just downloaded it for the first time. Running SL 10.6.4

Edit: Installed 2.7 and then updated to 2.8 everything works fine now.
