Open firmware

I have been using macs for a while,but i have a question:

1.How do i get to open firmware?

2.Do i need to update the firmware before i install OS X on a beige g3?

Command Option O F

will open Open Firmware

Check on apples site to see if you need the firmware update

I have decided not to run OS X on the beige g3(i think it will run too slowly)
