I am interested in trying to develop an iPhone app. Im more so doing it as a hobby and a challenge. From what i am reading i need to first learn C++ is that true? Ive never done any programming before.
What prerequisites do i need before opening up the iPhone SDK?

Objective C is what's used to program on the iPhone. There's a ton of resources on the Apple developer page.
