I am in no way new to Mac but I have not the slightest idea on how to change this I have checked everywhere. The Nickname I chose is xam for some reason I just want to change it to "Max"

First off...do NOT just rename the folder. All heck will ensue.
It is possible to change your short name but I don't have the link handy. (anyone?)
It might be easier just to create a new user with the short name you want and copy files to the new user.

Ok, found it....Mac OS X: How to change user short name or home directory name
