I tried to connect my printer (an HP) to my imac, and it tells me that I need to go to HP website and download something called rosetta in order to install it. What is it???

It would help if you told us the specifications of your computer & what OS version you're running (which many times can help in answering a question)...but Rosetta is an emulation program that allows software written for older Macintosh PPC processors to run on an Intel processor based Macintosh.

Just install Rosetta. It used to be included with 10.5, now it's an optional download for 10.6 if you need to run older applications (or in your case printer drivers).

I am running a brand new imac, 10.6 I think. I would think it would come installed already. I guess not. Anyone know where I can get the download?
And your help is appreciated! Thanks!

I don't believe Rosetta is installed by default. When I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard it had to be selected to install. Here are the instructions for installing it from your Snow Leopard install DVD.

It's not installed already because it is only needed if you are running software that was written for older Macs based on the Power PC chip. See this document for installation information Mac OS X 10.6 Help: If you need to install Rosetta.

BTW before downloading and installing Rosetta check the HP site to see if there is a newer driver that does not require Rosetta.

Kudos to chscag for beating me to the punch on that reply. I gotta type faster.
