Reseting Finder columns size
I like to use Finder in the column mode, but each time I use it after closing, it always displays in the default size.

Is there a way I can set the size of the columns so that they remain that size each time I open Finder?

The way I have done it is to keep my finger on the tab key while I drag the columns out to the size required. When I reopen Finder they open up to the size I set them to. I also find this works with other things. I.H.T.H.

Thanks Gandalph. My main Finder window stays at the size I adjusted it to, but the columns are still at the default size.

Use the same method to drag your columns out to the size you want.

Could be a way, but I have not seen a way to change the default opening width of the columns in column mode.

Columns in list mode will stay at the size you adjust them.

Sorry I should have added, at the bottom of the first column line you will find a mark like this " , put your mouse pointer on it and drag to the right.

Finder column view:
Option dragging the resize widget || will resize all columns, wide or narrow, all the same and seems to stick.
Double clicking on the resize widget || will temporarily expand that column to show all.
Option double click will temporarily resize all used columns to the largest width needed..

Option + drag

That's the ticket.

Still no way to set each individual column width and have it maintained after closing and re-opening.

Haven't found a way ... yet :)

I'm not sure there is going to be one.

Besides the first column, which opens wide enough to fully show the name of all files/folders in the default location - at least mine does. The width of the remaining columns would need to be adjusted depending on exactly where you're navigating each time.

All I can add is to say that my columns in Finder have remained at the size I resized them to (for some reason) using the method I have described above. I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
