I installed Safari Adblock, but ads still come up. Do I have to do something to turn it on? Thanks.

Well doing a little reading it works out of the box.
Where did you download it from?? HERE is a link to MacUpdate.
If its not working use the uninstaller get rid of it and download it again. You might have got a bad dl
