putting HD on desktop

how do i put the HD icon on the desktop? it is not on there.. i just have my mobile me on there. i tried to google it but no luck. also how come i cant change some of my icons in my dock.. some just wont change... oh and btw my MBP came in today i am typing on it..lol

Go to Finder, then press Command+, (or just go to Finder prefs).

Go to the General tab, and check the boxes for the items you want to be shown on the desktop.

And which icons are you trying to change?

i am trying to change icons like mail, dashboard, finder, safari, ichat address book, ical, itunes

Have you tried dragging and dropping? I got a couple icons and all I did was drag and drop them on the icon in the get info window. I'll post some screenshots showing exactly how I did it.

Here is someone with the same problem, I'll link you to the post directly.

I assume you mean you want to change the icons on the dock? No point in having them on the desktop and on the dock. I'm not at my Mac at the moment, but I did this to change the awful Office for Mac icons and I seem to recall that it meant going into the Preferences for the application and making the change there.

And to OP if you are using a later OS X version, click on Finder, first icon on Dock, Preferences and make sure the radio button for show HD is selected.

i 've done this already, it is how i have changed my iwork icons and such but the ones that i have listed above wont change. i am trying to figure out why those wont change and the others will
