If you have ever looked closely at any Apple product, you'd find that it says "Assembled in China". Even if Apple is an USA company, it doesn't mean that it has to be assembled in USA as well.

Yep, just about all consumer electronics are made in Asia. and Yes, I have a "thing" about supporting China or Asia when half this (US) country is owned by them. If it means never buying a new Apple product, I'm fine with that.

I think more and more people are getting tired of buying stuff made in Asia. I see more and more things in stores saying Made in USA that would've been made elsewhere.
All it takes is one person to start something, not to mention that quite a few other people probably have the same idea, but might not have done anything yet.

Unfortunately, it would be financial suicide to start making computers in the US. Manufacturing costs alone would make any one company's products non-competitive. This is why Dell just recently closed their last US-based assembly plant (and keep in mind, this was strictly assembly - all the parts are made in China/Taiwan).

Isn't this why Apple sub-contracted Foxxcon to build the iPhone?

For the same reason that no computer manufacturer makes their own IC's.

I really didn't even want to get involved in this conversation. The whole "Made in the USA" vs. "Made Outside the USA" topic is really really complex!
And I hate to generalize...but usually the zealots that push for the purchasing of items only made in the USA...really really don't understand domestic or international economics very well!!!
And trying to explain to these folks the complexities & realities of this issue is a definite exercise in futility!
Some folks (hopefully not too many) may find these statements offensive...but then that just underscores the fact that they don't understand world economics...and the various decisions that the US government & US based business's have made over the last 50 years which have contributed to the current import/export status of the United States!
