Syncing iPhone with recently repaired iMac

Last week, I had to have the HD replaced in my 18 month old iMac Unfortunately, I did not back up my iTunes library prior to it crashing (I thought I did, but it didn't work correctly). I have the majority of my library on my 3G iPhone.

My question is: When I attempt to sync my iPhone to the iMac for the first time, will it automatically transfer the songs and movies to the computer? Is there anything special I need to do prior to syncing or while syncing to ensure I don't lose the data from my phone?

Despite making the switch to Mac 1.5 years ago, I am still a newbie!!!!

Thanks in advance guys!
