Can anyone shed some light as to how to rename a batch of files within a folder all at once ie "Picture 1, 2, 3 and so on?

Automator is one App that would do it and chances are there is already a workflow included for it. Run automator then select the workflow that looks closest to what you need then drag element in out to make it as needed. Have a look here at SCO0146 covers workflow in Automator if u need some pointers.
