Deleting emails in Mail

hey i was wondering if i delete emails in the Mail application, can i set it to delete email in my gmail account as well??? because when i delete it through Mail, it doesnt delete it in gmail. i checked all the preferences and it doesnt show anything like that.

Under Mail>Preferences>Advanced there is a box that says "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message". Check it and choose how frequently you want it to delete messages.
