So after trying to import them i guess there not compatable...

So as im new to the wide world of macs, how can i get an avi file to import into imovie? I guess i'll have to convert it *sigh*, so what format will it need to be converted too and is there a FREE programme to do so?

Help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!
