I plan to buy a Mac Mini but will I be able to connect it to a Hd TV?

Would i be able to use a HDTV as a moniter for the latest Mac Mini useing a Mini DVI to HDMI adapter cable?

I have heard that sound can be a problem.

Yes you can. I have mine hooked up to a Samsung 52" LCD and my Yamaha receiver via this:

No doubt. I ended up running back to DIRECTV for sports, but add one of these suckers and they are fantastic:
