can't change sleep settings!

i found the system preferences/energy section where i'm supposed to be able to drag the indicator to "never" (or however long i want) when setting the sleep preferences, but everything is greyed out and i cannot change anything. why? help! i can't have my computer go to sleep so often!

Are you a standard user by any chance? I'm not sure if standard users have access to the system preference panes.

I found and installed a great little program called Caffeine that keeps my Mac awake.

What does the lock look like in the bottom left part of the window? If it's a closed lock click on it to open up the settings. Once you have done that it will allow changes to the settings of that "window."
