Why does this happen?! I have two taps open in safari: one is pandora and one is mac forums. When I switch tabs and go away from pandora's, after like 5 seconds, it pauses the music. When I go back to the page, it starts playing automatically... Anyone have any suggestions? Its really annoying

It does it to me also, both with streaming music, talk, vocal, and video. Not sure if it's a Safari thing or not. It does get annoying especially if I forget and switch a tab. Having to go back and start the streaming again is a pain.

As much as I can't stand Internet Explorer, (in Windows) it's able to keep the stream going even when switching tabs.

Regards.

It's not limited to Safari. Try playing a song with QT and you should get the same results. My guess is that this is a "feature" to prevent the playing to two sounds/songs at the same time.

Usually only the app that has focus "owns" the sound. But sound shouldn't stop when simply changing tabs within an app. As Oneironaut said, use Firefox.

I play YouTube videos all the time and change tabs and the music never stops. Will check Pandora later.

No need to install a different browser for this. If you're comfortable with Safari, stick with it.

Check this link here to see some Pandora clients. One is a dashboard widget which would make access easy and it's quite small (92K). That's easier than downloading a new browser, learning the idiosyncrasies of the browser and migrating bookmarks just to use Pandora.

I can't speak to the quality of these because someone responsible doesn't like Canadians.

Again, can't speak for Pandora but could that be because YouTube uses Flash?
