Trouble with yahoo messenger in Firefox

I have no problems with connecting to people if I use Safari but if I use firefox and click on a contact it does not connect and I get lots of tab appearing.
Anyone got any ideas.

I just noticed that Yahoo has Messenger for Mac 3.0 beta posted for download. Are you using that version?
