Can Macs automatically download fonts?

So today on my work computer I was working in Photoshop & I noticed at least a dozen new fonts that I did NOT download. I don't always lock my computer down when I leave work, so I'm wondering if this is some mischief in the office?? Or is my computer automatically updating new fonts on to itself??? I've worked on this computer for over a year now and this has never happened.

I work in Photoshop CS2, 9.0.2 on a Mac OS X, Version 10.4.11, PowerPC G5 (3.0), I often work in photoshop, fcp, & motion.

TIA

Umm no even if it could it wouldn't install them automatically either. Someone probably activated fonts while you were away.

Adobe CS packages have their own fonts folder, some extra fonts and some fonts used by the UI, so they are in a separate place from your other font folders.

They are in HardDisk > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Fonts

Don't take them all out though - read this guide first

What font management software do you use? Linotype Font Explorer?
