my iBook came with a power cord that has a little cap that goes on the end. should i unplug from the wall and the iBook or can i just unplug it from my iBook and put the cap on the end, leaving the actual cord still plugged in.

are you talking about the little clear cap that goes over the power jack to the computer?

The little plastic plug is mostly to protect your power adaptor when you're travelling. I expect you'll lose it in about a month. :mac:
Generally, you unplug the adapter from the wall whenever you'll be bringing it along (say, on a business trip) but leave it plugged in when you're just taking the laptop to work and won't need to recharge.
There aren't really any rules about this. You can unplug whatever you want, whenever you want.

i just wasn't sure if it was a safety issue. for example: starting a fire.
