    Quicktime plaing AVI's
    Helo ladies and gentlemen, I have an interesting delema that neither me or my father canfigure out, I have an iBook with 40gig and 256ram, my father has a g4 for which Im not sure about the specs but it is a graet machine, my father runs Quicktime 6.4 and I run 6.5.2, I can veiw AVI's on my fathers machine but not on mine.

    Any ideas?

    Hmm..I'm not sure, but my knowledge has always held that you needed to download the DivX codec, which allows quicktime to play AVIs

    Another option is to get VLC and set that to open AVI files. Look for it on versiontracker.com

    PowerMac G4 Cube 450mhz 832mb
    mplayer is actually better. but even with the divx codecs, avi's often look like crap, misaligned audio and video usually. I usually use mplayer to view them, then I use divx doctor 2 to convert to .mov.

    I use VLC and have no problems playing AVI files. They look great, work great. No problems...

    i was just refered to mplayer about a week ago and am loving it. it's super simple.
