Buy now or wait a few months

I was a PC user for 25 years, back to the days of the first PCs, and in mid-2007, I finally became tired of Windows and bought a Mac Pro. I'll never go back. Probably cost me my job at MS, but, I guess those are the breaks.

My wife is a VERY novice computer user, mostly for email and web surfing. She does take pictures with her camera and looks at them on the computer, but not much else. She has had an eMachines computer for 5 years that finally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago. I have her using a laptop that I inherited, but I don't really see it as a long term solution for her, for a number of reasons; mainly because I may need to use it again for work, and I will need to reorganize everything to make it look the way she wants.

I figure that as long as I need to rework a computer and teach her a new OS (the laptop has Vista), I might as well get her a Mac as well. This weekend, she finally agreed to at least discuss the Mac idea.

With all of the rumors circulating about updates to the iMac and Mac Mini lines, should I wait for the new hardware and let her limp along on the new laptop, or should I go ahead and bite the bullet and get an iMac now while she still agrees that she might need it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
