iMAC,

On my Macbook, using alt+3 gives me this: £, shift+3 gives me #, so it must be keyboard difference...

mines the other way around.

shift+number always brings up the character located on the number key... or at least thats what i've found. And mine has a on the 3 key.... so shift+3 gives me .

do you have a # symbol on your number 3 key then?

lukenn seems to have grasped what the OP was leaving out.

i believe this has been pointed out before, but some of us don't remember that one of the differences between a US and UK keyboard is that the alternate character on the "3" key is a # in the US and a £ in the UK. alt, just gives us the alternate alternate. ;P

yes, very little use for £ for most Americans. Then again I use ü ä etc often too. then there's just  which is simply fun ;)

iMAC 08-11-2008 09:17 AM

on my 3 key there is an £ on it,
when i press shift+3 it makes £,
when i press alt+3 it makes #
