OK so Ive been debating for a long time about getting a Mac. I recently decided that I want to get one for sure, and I had decided on the 12" ibook that just came out in October. Now here is my dilemma, I was looking at the ibook compared to the powerbook...

Ibook 12.1", 1.2ghz G4 133mhz FSB, 256mb 266DDR Ram, 32 mb Raedon, 60 gig HD.

With my student discount, this unit would cost me $1020 from Apples website.
Ok now the Powerbook...

Powerbook 12.1". 1.33ghz G4 167mhz FSB, 256mb 333DDR Ram, 64mb Geforce, 60gig HD.
This unit would cost $1399 with my student discount...

Upon purchasing etiher machine I would add 1gig of ram as well....

I am planning on using the ibook mainly for school, emailing, light video editing, itunes, web browsing, and I would like to install ProTools. Is it worth the extra $400 in price to get the Powerbook? I must be honest though, I like the way the ibook looks much more. I am under the impression that the ibook is more durable and scratch resistent than the powerbook, is this correct? Also, are there going to be new models of each coming out anytime soon? I know I saw some thread explaining this, but I cannot find it. I am very anxious to switch over to a Mac, but I do not want it to be outdated if I buy it in January. I dont know if I can hold out. Please help me, thankyou.
QUOTE Thanks

its not really worth the extra money for the powerbook if thats all your gonna do onit, theyd perform almost identically depending on what youre doing. Im not sure if the ibook is more durable or not, and no new models are coming out soon of either.

I hope you enjoy the iBook. I was in the same delemma and went the other way. I bought the 15" PowerBook. I am very happy with it. I already had the 12" iBook and was happy with it for a time. I really like the extra space on the PowerBook. I was able to use my student discount too. Have fun and enjoy. If you haven't bought it yet, my AIM screen name is kissjuno.

I went for the Ibook since I needed the shippest option and I don't regret it, it performs very well for the task I do which are almost the same than you mentioned
I guess I would need a power book if I were doing video editing or something as demanding as that
About the scratch I had the idea that power book would be more resistent since they are built of Titanium, Ibooks are some kind of plastic
I would rather powerbook looks, but I'm happy now with my iBook
QUOTE Thanks
