Hi. Im a mac newbie and I'm experiencing problems with my mac. Most of my applications would quit unexpectedly. This was after I forced my macbook to shut down in the middle of an update. Yes. I was stupid. Anyway, how could I fix the problem?

I already tried:
1. repair permissions using disk utility (it says my drive is ok)
2. reinstalled some of applications (i.e. Yahoo messenger and safari) yet it still wont launch.
3. zapped my PRAM
4. verified permissions (it says my drive is ok)

please help me. im so so lost.

Sorry to hear, although your laptop should be turned on during a update, now you know at least

You say you have repaired permissions, have you also verified the hard drive too ? I think you can do both in Disk Utility.

Maybe try to download this application (it is free)
http://www.titanium.free.fr/

Try to run the maintenance in that application, also make sure you have OS X Leopard.

Have you also tried re-running the software update ?

I would try running a filesystem check/repair. This is a little more complicated than using Disk Utility, but it would be my next step:

(the following is excerpted from D3v1l80y's most excellent Basic Mac OS X Troubleshooting guide).

Quote:
File System Check - When booting up your computer hold down the Apple Key & the S key and it will boot into single user mode. When the text is done loading on the screen type in /sbin/fsck -f and hit enter.
When that is done if it fixed things then do the check again to make sure it is cleared
When finished with that type in exit and it will start the computer in normal mode
If that doesn't correct the problem, please check back in and we'll go one step further. Worst case scenario is that you might have to do an "Archive & Install" on Mac OS X.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
QUOTE Thanks
