Switcher Hangout The place for switchers to discuss their new machines, and how to work with OS X. General support can be had here for newbie stuff, like "How do I restart my new iMac?" :)

How long did it take you to get use to using command instead of ctrl?

I'm still not quite use to it. I keep hitting ctrl+c, ctrl+v,and ctrl+x without even realizing it until nothing happens. I'm getting better about it, but I still hit the wrong buttons when I'm not thinking. I'll probably have it down in about a month. I've only had my MacBook about a week now

So how long did it take any of you long time Windows users to adjust?

FYI - if you are not ready to give up CTRL, you can go to the keyboard preferences and make CTRL behave like Command, so you can use CTRL+C and CTRL+V and CTRL-whatever

About 2-3 days. Once I learned to erase everything I knew from my Windows (aka Dark) days, it was rather easy!

You'll get over it. Start using it everywhere. Cmd+T for new tabs Cmd+Q to quit programs for instance.

haha same, it's a lot harder to press ctrl+C than it is to press cmd+C ctrl is so much farther away from everything and is so awkward to use, I don't know how I used to do it in windows!

Use the Rep System!!

About a week, and now it's more natural this way. I have to remember the CTRL combinations and I've been doing those for more than twenty years!

I can switch between the two pretty easily now though.

That is a harder question then i initially thought. Its like i think it and bam it is there. So really i think it is still a learning process using more and more "cmd" everyday

I think after a while you just get used to it...
Even switching between the two is easier once your brain understands there's two ways of doing things.
