So I've been looking into getting a Macbook for school. I had been looking at the black Macbook (im not sure I like the white). Yesterday I went to Best Buy and saw the Air in person for the first time. Wow. I fell in love with it until I saw its specs (and the price that followed). I'm mostly going to use the laptop for school, a lot of internet browsing, and chatting. I also play World of Warcraft.
I would assume that after seeing I'll be playing WoW, the MBP comes to mind but I dont need the game to run flawlessly. It runs fine on my PC until I reach a city and then I receive some lag. This same thing happened on my girlfriends high end white MB and it doesnt bother me. Will WoW be unplayable on the Air? Low settings of course--I dont care about the graphics. Pros to the Air on a 10 scale (9) Portibility (9) Style (10) its a Mac!! Cons: (7) Cpu speed (6) HDD rpm (I say 6 cuz I dunno if this would mean much to me) I also heard that the I-sight is worse on the Air. Is this true? My girlfriend goes to school 200 miles away and video chat would be important. The apple remote will work on it too, right? Now, here is my other dilemma. My PC is a bit old. Its an AMD 2700+ with 512MB RAM and a Gforce 6600. Ive been looking at getting a new PC but recently had a new idea: Get a MBA this week for portibility in taking it places, and then later get the entry MBP and use it as my main "computer." I could also get the Air and an iMac instead of the MBP. If I got the black MB I think it would make my decision easier as I wouldnt need a MBP and could eventually get an iMac or nothing at all. What do you guys think? Would it be stupid for a guy to own an Air and a MBP? Luckily I hit a $2500 jackpot at the casino last night, so it makes buying one of the laptops much easier I appreciate any help. |

Even though you said you didn't want a MBP, I'd suggest it. You'll enjoy WoW MUCH Better, beleive me
ALso, after winning, why not convert that to the low end Mac, and buy an iPod touch with the remaining? You'll get all Mac'ed up, and feel good about yourself. A MBP isn't really THAT big to carry around... You won't gain back problems and that is for sure. The HD is much larger in the MBP, and it is faster. If that is too big for you, which I guess it may be, the reg MB would work better than the Air IMO.

For me the major drawback of the MBA is that it doesn't have a CD drive...which means you would need to buy an external one or have another computer there to use the remote drive feature...just my 2 cents |

I personally think the MBA isn't all its cracked up to be. Like you said, the specs just don't sit well with the price besides the fact it doesn't have a disk drive. If I were you I would get a MBP. If you're attending a university you're elgible for a $200 discount on it which basically pays for the discounted Apple Care($239) and you would still have $500 for any upgrading or accessories you need. I just can't see the benefit in playing any game on a 13" screen, but that's just my opinion.
