Negative Feedback Question
I posted an iMac for sale on the Buy, Sell, Trade forum last weekend. It was being sold by a close friend that was in a bind. I thought that since he was selling it for MUCH LESS than mac2sell was listing it, that some of you may be interested and that I was doing the Mac-Forums community a favor by psting it. It was a mint condition computer at a VERY, VERY reasonable price. He would have taken any offer over $650 for a computer listing at $1170.
I was just checking my feedback profile today and got negative feedback with this statement:
"this forum is for qualifying active members only, not a place to sell your friend's stuff"
NO WHERE do I see a rule stating this though.
I see someone over there listing an Airbook for his sister. Should he receive negative feedback? Of course not.
To me it was petty and out of line and I bet if the feedback function wasn't anonymous, people would get a lot less of it.
So is it a forum rule somewhere that maybe I missed? Because I looked at the stickies and didn't see it anywhere.
I don't see why you can't, and that statement is ridiculous anyway. You have plenty of posts, so you are entitled to sell what you want. Who cares if it's your friends??!!

The rep system often seems unneeded. More than once I have gotten negative feedback that was uncalled for. Other sites seem to do fine without the rep system, so why should we have one?
I'm not trying to insult the forum or any of the mods or admins, it's just I do really feel it's unnecessary.

Or maybe require a comment to contain more than X amount of words. I have 1 negative feedback where the comment was a period. Yes, "." Was the comment.
...Although the rep was uncalled for i do like the rep system. Tells me that the person has a history of stupid posts. :p
I think the rep system works well when people want to thank you for something but unfortunately it is open to abuse - just like the rep system on ebay - some people will abuse a good system and eventually ruin it for everyone else
As for this case - completely WRONG! Shouldn't have happened and I wonder if this is a good example of where the unhappy person can go to a mod or an admin and ask for it to be removed?

Appreciate your thoughts, but we like it and it works quite well here.

why reply to a thread that's been dead for over a year?
-6 points ! I believe it was my first or second post here! The thing is I wasn't the one who brought it back and there are several posters after me. Did they all get that - feedback?
I feel like the feedback system is just a place for immature 12 year olds to abuse.
If you need that system here don't make it anonymous, I want to know who has a problem with my posting and why.
Matt
edit: here is the thread I got reprimanded for, notice I didn't bring it back and it was a good healthy discussion. Best program for logo design?

Does having a negative feedback prevent one from doing things they could've done before? If it doesn't, then it isn't something I would care/worry about. I'm guessing that positive feedback is visible through the number of the green dots in our profile snippet.
I feel kinda left out, no positive or negative feedback yet..
Have one myself for having a "tasteless signature" and it may be. Wouldn't be the first time I've been called tasteless, uncouth, and any number of other things.
Would suggest, live with it and move on.

How long do you think it will take before Apple releases a "software update" to OS 10.6?
I'm thinking within the next 3 months (by the end of 2009).)
This is a post I made at the end of August and got negative feedback for. The comment was "." So maybe someone out there is giving random negative feedback to others and just using a period as his/her comment. Whatever. I didn't even know it was there until I read this thread and searched around to find where the feedback is located on this site.
Anyways, I agree with the OP. If someone wants to sell a friend or relatives stuff on here, big deal. So what?
And perhaps if you really care that much, you should appeal directly to a moderator to have it removed.
I agree with the person who said at the end of the day, what does it matter?

At the end of the day it doesn't matter one bit. It was just a slap it the face to get negative feedback after my first few posts. Made me think, do I really want to be part of this community?
